Before talking about Blue…

Before talking about Blue, I want to thank a few people who made this website possible. First off, it would not be up and running if it wasn’t for the help and patience my sister Lisa has shown this past month. I am not a technical person, neither is she, but she has a knack for figuring things out. There were some days I thought we would both lose it, but alas, persistence paid off. A big thanks goes to my brother Bob who designed the poster for Blue and the artwork for Studio Speranza. And finally, thank you to Corrie Logan (who is also the sound man for Blue). Corrie knows computers and has always been available when I need him. He guided me in actually getting this website online. So, there you have it. I am in good company and I can’t be more grateful.

Onto Blue… I’ve yet to attend a rehearsal, but I plan to this Friday. I kind of want to leavemy director Jane alone in this process. One of the reasons I don’t feel I need to be at rehearsals is because I trust Jane completely. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t have done the very difficult re-write I was asked to do back in January of this year. Blue has been through many re-writes, but this last draft (and the one audiences will be seeing), was one of the hardest re-writes I’ve done. It did not come easily and there were many days I just wanted to give up and throw the whole thing in the garbage. Thank goodness I didn’t because what emerged was a much stronger piece that’s far more focused and driven.

I’m really proud of the group of actors we have assembled. They are so excited and supportive of the work. One of the hardest things for a writer to do is to allow other people to take your work and interpret it. You have no control anymore – your work is done. And yet at the sametime, as scary as that thought is, it’s also incredibly liberating.
