Rehearsals for Born For This are in full swing. The play is completely blocked and I am now working on the acting. The next couple of weeks are critical in molding the direction of the play and getting the best out of my performers. There are 4 original songs in Born For This, composed by three individuals. Bouncing musical ideas back and forth with these composers was a lot of fun. I particularly enjoyed giving them samples of music regarding the kind of melodies I was listening for. The set design is also complete and the physical work on the set is about to begin. In the next week, I’ll be revealing the poster of the play and giving more details about the plot.
The Tree of Life re-write is done. I wrapped up the script this passed weekend and shipped it off to The Kairos Prizes – a competition whose mandate focuses on spiritually uplifting screenplays. After re-working the screenplay for a couple months, I re-titled it A Walk in the Park, which by no means describes the experience of re-writing this story. I had many, many days of writing where I would come up with only half a page of words. But as one of my close friends and fellow screenwriter would say “Half a page? – So it was a good day”.
Writing happens in small victories. Each victory both knocks you down because it tires you out and lifts you up because you feel that much stronger. It’s a constant battle worth fighting for.
“Writing is a socially-acceptable form of schizophrenia.”
