Up in the Attic has been in rehearsal for a little more than a month. We are at about the half-way point to sharing this play with an audience. In the next two weeks, many elements will begin to converge as the actors soon do away with their scripts and the focus shifts toward acting. At the same time, the poster is complete, the trailer premieres soon, the music is being rehearsed, costumes are being sought, the set is being built and the lights are being hung. I find myself juggling these elements and the trick is to keep them all up in the air at the same time. Up in the Attic plays for 3 performances on March 31 and April 1
After the disappointment of not placing in the Kairos Prizes for Screenwriting, I decided to send out my script Walk to a couple more competitions and see what happens. In the meantime, I have been re-writing my screenplay Twig and feel it is close to the point of sharing with others. I was reading an article today about re-writing and how a writer knows he/she has finished a script. It is important to note that writing is always re-writing. So be honest with yourself – a first draft usually does not get the job done. You must confide in readers you trust. You do not need a lot of readers, but you must have a couple who can be brutally honest with your work. You can also send out your script to a reputable agency/competition who will read your work for a price. I have done this and it has proven fruitful.
