Art

Less than 3 weeks to go and Born For This opens.  I was at rehearsal yesterday and the creative energies were flowing in many directions.  Art was happening on different levels.   As the director, I always look forward to when you give someone the task of creating something and then they come back and show you what they’ve done.   For me, it’s like a kid on Christmas morning.   I can’t wait to see the gift.

I saw several gifts this weekend.   Lights were hung and some of the set was coming together.  Born For This takes place in a run-down shelter and the flats being painted for the setting reflect peeling wallpaper and exposed brink.  I also saw a dance with original music composed for the piece.  The synergy of hearing the music and watching the dancer was a treat.  I love to provide other people with a creative outlet.  As for the actors, we are now at the point in the rehearsal process where lines have been learnt and it’s time to refine and focus performances.

Art is necessary.  It’s not just something one does for fun because it isn’t always fun.  After working with actors or plugging away on the next re-write, a sense of contentment usually settles within me.    Progress is made.   Art is life.

  1. For such a time as this…
Ephesians 2:10, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.”

How true Romeo … life would be colourless if it weren’t for the many forms of art we are privileged to enjoy. Thanks to you and your cast for the joy and the message they will bring this Christmas season. Looking forward to it!

Way to go! Looking forward to seeing the Christmas play. All of your efforts are coming to fruition. The message of Christmas will come across loud and clear on another level. It is exciting to see an original play and to see the culmination of all the efforts each actor has put forth.
