The Music Man

Over the years, I’ve worked with composers who have taken lyrics I’ve written and arranged some beautiful scores.  It’s a collaborative process where I give composers samples of the kind of music I would like for a particular song.  It’s always fun when they come up with a musical idea and I hear it for the first time.  For me it’s like being a kid on Christmas morning.  I’d like to introduce you to James MacKnight, he’s the music man whose music will be heard in my upcoming production of Thirsty on stage Dec 6 & 7.  James has composed 4 original songs (along with adapting a traditional Christmas carol) that are wildly different from each other.  Thirsty is a quirky kind of play and James’s compositions not only compliment the story but elevate it into something more.

Thirsty opens in just over 2 weeks and the actors are now on the stage for the first time running the play.   In the next week I’ll be combining acting with the music and then it’s onto tech.  The play is at a good place and I look forward to sharing this sweet story to the public.

I just recently finished writing another screenplay called Who is Molly Steele? and entered the script in the Chronos Prize for ScreenwritersChronos is a LA based competition which offers significant prize money to its winner.  The last few days I was driven to elevate the quality of the script as much as possible before sending it off.  I feel like my efforts have paid off.  I will find out in January if Who is Molly Steel? makes the semi-finals.

Here’s the logline to Who is Molly Steele?    A catastrophe pushes Molly Steele to take a cross country road trip to the place where she grew up to confront the haunted memories she has buried her entire life.
