Film, Theatre, Writing

On March 27, my short film Picture This will premiere at the Ozark Foothills Filmfest.  This film festival takes place in Arkansas and if you visit here, and scroll down to March 27 @ 1:30, you will find a link to Picture This.  The film is showing the same day Close opens on stage.  My screenplay Home is also in competition at the Ozark Festival.

Speaking of Close, this theatrical production has been in rehearsals for just over three weeks and the play is slowly piecing together.  Close also has two original songs written by me and scored by Maire Slater.  This production (as all productions should be), has become a true collaborative venture and I feel very supportive in the process.

I have finally begun writing my new spec screenplay and find myself on page 53 of a first draft.  This script is called Twig and it is the story of Eugene Twig – a hoarder.  The story explores Twig’s life and delves into why he has become a hoarder.  The characters are more quirky than any film script I’ve written before.  Themes of love and loss wrapped in hope resonate throughout the story.  I am not sure about the tone of the script; it feels like it has changed, going from a whimsical drama, to darker shades of reality.  Whatever the case may be, I am just relieved to finally get words on a page and not allow my insecurities to get the best of me.

Novelist Vladimir Nabakov puts it best about writing:

“The pages are still blank, but there is a miraculous feeling of the words being there, written in invisible ink and clamoring to become visible.”
