Bricks

I’m tired.  It’s that time in the production when many pieces are coming together and I’m feeling stretched.  But it’s all good.  Children of Light, will soon see the light of day come Dec 8 and 9.  I’m working with a great group of volunteers who I am sure are also feeling stretched.  We are all doing some heavy lifting right now.  The play is taking shape.  When I think back of the first reading in mid September (2 months ago) and see where we are today, I realize how far we’ve come (and how much further we have to go).  It’s like building a house, brick by brick.  With the music being added, another brick is being laid and as a result, the growing pains evolve.   Tech “bricks” await in a couple weeks and then it’s the big show.

Speaking of lifting bricks, today I wrapped up my script Play Ball and sent it to the Kairos Prize for Screenwriting.  I have been re-writing Play Ball (originally called Walk) for the last couple months.  This past week I’ve been re-reading the script over and over.  I always get so anxious before sending a script out, but when I finally do, it is a huge relief.  I’m expecting great things with Play Ball.   The script is solid and much improved over the previous draft.  Semi-finalist are announced in January.

Brick work can get exhausting, but being stretched is not a bad thing; in fact it’s necessary.  I think the writer of The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald, knew something about heavy lifting:

“Writers aren’t exactly people…they’re a whole lot of people trying to be one person.”

One person trying to be a whole lot of people?
A whole lot of people trying to come out of one person?
They’re all in there, trying to come out!!
Are you willing to let them all out?? 😉
