Story of a Boy in a Week

StoryOfABoyPosterOne week away and Story of a Boy premieres.  I’ve had a week of tech and about to enter the weekend.  We are bringing together actors, choir and band and adding sound and lights.  These next two days can be somewhat stressful as you are dealing with approximately 40 people and trying to get the lights to run smoothly and the sound to sound just right.   Tech rehearsals are a time consuming beast as everyone waits around for their que to come up.   I have really enjoyed working with this group of actors.  They have put in a ton of time and are now ready to gel with the music.  This weekend, the play rises to another level as we near the dress rehearsal next Thursday.

In the meantime, the Toronto Fringe Theatre Festival lottery was held this past week.  Jane Miller and I entered Blue for a possible remount next summer.  But it is not meant to be as Studio Speranza was not drawn from out of the hat.   I wasn’t really that disappointed – a lot of companies entered and only a lucky few are fortunate enough to be chosen.

My play Circus sits and waits for a rewrite which I will likely attend to after the Christmas Production has wrapped.  I will also begin writing an Easter Production to be performed in spring of 2010.  The play is partially cast.  My new spec screenplay has been completely outlined but I am unsatisfied with the third act and need to re-think it before I start writing the screenplay.  I’m playing around with the title Garbage Collector, but I am not sold on it.  Even when I have the time, it’s been hard to work on the new spec script.  My mind is preoccupied with Story of a Boy and it’s difficult to concentrate on two projects, in different genres, at the same time.

Hi Romeo, Great blog! Can I read your play Home? You have my interest tweaked.

Great job with the Christmas play – it is original. Not sure that it fits 1 of the 36 plot lines – it fits several … romance in old age (I wish); drama – mom/son tension; effects of war; Christmas story – from a completely different perspective; kindness of strangers; stubbornness and independence of people in their intent to stay away from God … when happiness is under their noses (or in this case, across the street) if only they would darken the door to His House; and loneliness of individuals without Faith.

And the costumes are terrific and make it all happen. Looking forward to Sunday and trying to round up a crowd to go with me.

God Bless – and don’t work too hard – will remember you in prayer and Ask God to keep you from headaches this week.
    Karen
