“Bagels” Wins Wiki

A PROMISE I MADE TO MR. BAGELS wins the Top Prize in the Wiki Screenplay Contest

My screenplay A PROMISE I MADE TO MR. BAGELS has won the Wiki Screenplay Contest.   Wiki is a screenplay contest which has mini contests held every month.  They receive about 100 entries each month.  I entered because I wanted a critique of my script and get some feedback on how to improve the screenplay.  The reader who read BAGELS was quite impressed with it, so I had a good feeling after I placed as a finalist.   And now I find out I won which includes a little bit of cash, a little bit of exposure to potential agents and managers and my script will be promoted and listed on INKTIP – a site devoted to writers and producers who are looking for screenplays to option (ie buy).

Writing is subjective.  What one reader loves, another one does not.  I have given A PROMISE I MADE TO MR. BAGELS to different readers of various levels of expertise and I have received a variety of opinion.  Some I agree with.  Some I don’t.  And some I just don’t know.  What I do know is the reader who read my script for the Wiki contest happened to love it.  Had it been another reader who was not so keen on the concept, I probably wouldn’t have won.  It’s a bit of a crap-shoot.  Right place.  Right time.  Right everything.

Yes, talent matters.   Yes, perseverance counts.  Yes, you have to have hope because without hope, what do you have?   I live on the road of hope.  But hope without works means nothing.  You also have to have a little luck/grace.  The right reader read my script and I was rewarded.

In art, like in all things in life, whenever you seek opinion, balance it and don’t drive yourself nuts when it’s received; when it’s not what you want to hear.   Listen to others.  Be open.  Don’t feel you need to defend your position.   When you’re asked a question, speak up and be clear.  And in the end, go with your gut and go with a measure of confidence (cockiness is unbecoming).   It’s a delicate dance of doubt and courage, but you must decide what is right for you in whatever path you choose.

And please, don’t forget to make some time for rest and relaxation whether that would be in your backyard, going for a walk, spending time with a friend, or hanging out at your brother’s cottage like I did recently below…

    James 2:20:24

“Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
“You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.”
