Free For All

It’s always a good day when I receive an email like the one below:

Also, this bit of information was posted on The Script Lab Contest site about the amount of entries submitted:

A PROMISED I MADE TO MR. BAGELS is one of 1000 scripts that advanced to the 2nd Round of The Script Lab Contest.  To get the full list, visit the site HEREThe Script Lab Contest is a unique contest because it is FREE FOR ALL.   Anyone can enter at no cost.  Thus the reason for all the entries.  However, for the quarterfinal round, there is a catch and it’s all about First Impressions.  From The Script Lab Contest site:

Script Lab ONLY reads the first few pages of your screenplay in the first round.  Based on those pages, your script is judged.   To decide who advances into the semi-final round, the entire script is read.   I entered Mr. Bagels into The Script Lab Contest last year, but did not make the first cut.  I went back and re-wrote the script, tweaking the opening.  Did that tweak make a difference?   Perhaps or maybe I got a reader who really liked my opening and that’s why it advanced this go around.   Who knows.  I’m just pleased it made the cut.  Making the semi-final round will be a lot tougher.

On that point, maybe Mr. Bagels has the legs as it just made the semi’s of another contest.  I leave you with more good news and a sampling of screenplays that advanced in the Emerging Screenwriters Drama Competition:
