That’s How It Goes…goes to GLT

My one-act play That’s How It Goes Sometimes will be performed (virtually) at the Guelph Little Theatre (GLT) on July 22-25 for The Ward One Acts Festival.  Over a year ago, pre-Covid, I submitted That’s How It Goes… to GLT but their festival was cancelled due to Covid. This year, there is still no live theatre, but they are filming the plays and then streaming them.

That’s How It Goes… was my first attempt at writing a black comedy.  Here’s the synopsis:  A Male and Female are having dinner. It’s uncomfortably quiet. The tension between them is obvious. Once they start talking, their true feelings explode in vicious and uncompromising ways. But is it really their feelings…or someone else trying to control their every thought and action? That’s How It Goes Sometimes tackles the perplexing and often frustrating theme of creativity and who really is in charge.

More good news to share.   Look whose script,  BREAK AWAY, made the latest round of the StoryPros Screenwriting Awards.  It may only be the quarters (BREAK AWAY advanced in the DRAMA category – complete list HERE), but it’s always gratifying (and a huge relief) to see my name pop up among other writers:

I’ve finally started working on a new screenplay (albeit it’s been painstakingly slow).  And speaking of black comedy, this new script feels like it’s heading in that direction.  It’s early on in the brainstorming process, but I’m seeing plot, characters and themes emerge.  The title?  A Promise I Made to Mr. Bangles.   It’s about an overburdened children’s author with OCD whose ailing parents and dysfunctional sibling are giving him all kinds of grief as he struggles to write his new children’s book in a series of books around the fictional character of Mr. Bangles.  When Mr. Bangles comes to life to help the writer, all hell breaks loose leading the writer on the verge of a massive breakdown or massive breakthrough.  Doesn’t it sound hilarious?  Keep well all!
